Make Super Easy Dragon Chicken


Dragon Chicken is a fusion recipe and involves combination of more than one cuisine. It is basically a main course recipe. It looks like Manchurian but varies slightly. Dragon Chicken Recipe is an Indo-Chinese recipe, that is, fusion of Indian cuisine and Chinese cuisine. Most of the Chinese recipes are fast food type, by saying this, I mean, they will be ready fast and fast foods are really loved by all. Indian Recipes involve usage of spices.

Let us get started with our recipe, Dragon Chicken. It is made with boneless chicken. I recommended you to use Chicken strips for the Restaurant type effect. If you are using boneless chicken cubes, even that is absolutely fine.

  • Chicken (boneless)- ½ kg

First marination

  • Salt – to taste
  • Ginger paste – ½ tsp
  • Garlic paste – ½ tsp
  • Black pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Soy sauce – 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar – 2 tbsp

Second Marination (batter consistency)

  • Egg – 1
  • Corn flour – 2 tbsp
  • Plain flour – 2 tbsp
  • Oil – for deep frying

For sauce

  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Ginger – ½ inch (finely chopped)
  • Garlic – 6 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Soy sauce – 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar – 2 tbsp
  • Tomato sauce – ½ cup
  • Black pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Spring onion greens – 2 (chopped)
  • Spring onion bulbs – 2 (halved)
  • Cashew nuts – ½ cup (fried till light brown)

  1. Marinate the chicken with salt, ginger garlic paste, black pepper powder, soy sauce and vinegar.
  2. Leave the chicken in this marination for 10 minutes.
  3. Add egg, corn flour and plain flour.
  4. It should be thick, not too runny else the coating will come out while frying.
  5. Heat oil in a wok, add little batter into the oil to check if the oil is hot enough to fry the chicken.
  6. Add the chicken pieces, one by one, making sure there is enough space between the pieces and they won’t stick.
  7. Fry the chicken pieces till golden brown.
  8. Remove the chicken pieces on an absorbent paper.
  9. In a pan, add 2 tbsp oil. Let it heat for a while.
  10. Add chopped garlic, chopped ginger and saute.
  11. Drop in the soy sauce, vinegar and tomato sauce.Note: If you are running short of tomato sauce, after adding chopped ginger and garlic, add pureed tomatoes, that is finely ground tomatoes. Add little salt and cook till the oil separates. Now add the soy sauce, vinegar and continue the recipe as mentioned below.
  12. Season with salt and black pepper.
  13. Now add in few spring onion greens.
  14. Stir in well, add the chicken pieces and let it simmer.
  15. Add fried cashews, few more spring onion greens and halved spring onion bulbs.
  16. Leave it in for a minute.
  17. Garnish with few spring onion greens and fried cashews.

My First Encounter with Dragon Chicken:

I went to a restaurant with my friends, as we were looking through the menu, we found something called Dragon Chicken. Dragon Chicken was one dish that we all had not tried earlier. The name ‘Dragon Chicken’ left me in imagining that it would be spicy and fiery. It really stood up to my expectations, my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
